Whip Hand, Rope Hand, Segmented Hand

whip hand

For outgoing and striking use whip hand, always empty. An example is the sequence used in commencement after seating the wrists: opening the shoulder and sinking the elbow and then lowering the palms. This sequence is a slow mo burning palm strike going down. Sinking the elbow acts as a whip handle, driving the forearm that drives the palm. This is an active outgoing.

rope hand

For incoming use rope hand, fold and unfold as needed. In the same sequence as above, the empty forearms wrists and hands that precede the sink the elbow will act as ropes, pulling in whatever is holding or is being held inward and down. This is an active incoming.

segmented hand

For negotiating use segmented hand, fold and unfold as needed. A fancy way of describing folding and unfolding.

overall

Link all to the scapula, keep shoulder always sunk, open and empty, elbows always sunk, wrists empty, hands empty, fingers empty.

Drive scapula from the jiaji, drive jiaji from the ming-men, drive ming-men from the feet, manage through qua and yao.
